Mycelium Meditation Space
Interior Architecture Study
The Mycelium Meditation Space is a semester long project that focused on the guideline of creating an interior space out of one material. Through interviewing with my client (my partner), I created a space that catered to their wants and needs. From there, I choose the one material that would work best for the actions happening within the space.
The material I chose was mycelium, also known as, mushroom. The sustainable material allows for infinite possibilities in the sense of shaping, texture, insulation, and structure.
The purpose of my design was to provide a space that grows and decays. The symbolism of meditation growing your spirit is represented visually as the walls around you grow with you. Then, through the process of weathering and decomposition, the structure lays to rest and provides nutrients to the surrounding environment. By thinking of the structure’s complete life cycle, I have designed the most sustainable meditation space based off of recent material research and production.
